Meet Dreda

I was born in London's remarkable East End in 1965. My parents migrated from Grenada to England in the 1960s. I grew up on a council estate situated between Whitechapel and Wapping. It was during my visits to Whitechapel library as a child that my love of books grew. At eighteen I went off to study African History at The School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and later obtained a MA in education studies. I became a teacher in both secondary and primary schools, including becoming a deputy headteacher. I have also worked as a local authority education consultant, an inspector and freelance consultant. One of my great passions in life is improving the life chances of Black and working class children, so I continue to work part-time as an education consultant.
